The Curious AI Guy

How we check

What is behind every entry

We would rather show you less and be right than list more and guess. This is what we verify, what we do not claim, and how to tell us when we are wrong.

The library in numbers

Counted from the library itself when this page was built, on 12 October 2026.

102tools and projects
86truly open source
16source-available or mixed license
46with a price for the paid version
0hands-on tested by us
33useful projects that replace nothing

Yes, that last zero is on purpose: we show it so you can see the difference between "checked at the source" and "we ran it ourselves".

What we verify, and where it comes from

The license

Read from the project's own repository. We separate open source, source-available and mixed, and for mixed ones we read the license file to see which parts differ.

Source: the project's repository

Is it alive?

The date the code last changed, and how many people starred it. A recent update is a good sign, and an old one earns a warning in "The catch".

Source: GitHub or GitLab, with the check date

What you could save

An approximate list price for an individual plan of the paid tool, and what that figure is based on. If we could not verify a price, we say so and leave it out of your total.

Source: third-party price trackers

The catch

Where the tool falls short, what it needs, and what to watch for. Every entry has one, even the popular ones.

Source: the project's docs and our reading

Honest note: 4 of the 102 entries had no code change in the last five months at the time of checking (LTX-Video, Kokoro, OpenVoice, AudioCraft). Their pages say so.

What we do not claim

What you can rely on

  • The license, activity and star count are read at the source on the date shown.
  • When a license is mixed or restricted, we say it, including regions where it does not apply.
  • Prices are labelled approximate, with the basis.
  • No tool pays to be listed or ranked. If that ever changes, it will be marked on the entry.

What we do not claim

  • That a free tool is as good as the paid one. Every entry has a catch.
  • That a tool is tested, unless it says Tested.
  • That prices are exact. They change by region, plan and promotion, so treat the counter as a rough guide, not a quote.
  • That model files carry the same license as the code. Check the model page.

The Tested mark

A tool only gets this mark after we ran it ourselves and can say what happened.

  • We install it and use it for a real task.
  • We write down what worked, what did not, and how long it took.
  • The video test goes on Instagram.

No entry has the mark yet. When one does, you will see it on its page and on its card.

Spotted a mistake, or a tool we missed?

Tell us. We will check it at the source and correct the page.
